PLAN for Madison Surgery Center Closure
Per UW Health Incident Command, Madison Surgery Center (MSC) will be closed from March 23 through April 10.
ACTION REQUIRED BY PHYSICIAN PROVIDERS:
Stratify all surgical/procedural cases utilizing GREEN/RED methodology (essential = GREEN; non-essential = RED)
Essential/Urgent patients:
- Fractures and other acute injuries, including some tendon and ligament tears and locked meniscus tears, for which a delay in surgery would lead to a compromised outcome
- Nerve injuries
- Some malignancies, i.e., sarcomas
- Infections – discretion
- Progressive neurological deficit or neuropathic pain due to nerve compression
- Imminent failure of arthroplasty components, or adjacent bone (impending peri-prosthetic fracture)
- Irreducible arthroplasty dislocation
- Impending ulceration/soft tissue breakdown
- Surgery not listed here that is time dependent, i.e., any delay in surgery would lead to a compromised outcome
Physicians, please call RED dot patients to explain the postponement of case, and route a telephone encounter to the Orthopedics Surgical Schedulers letting them know this is done and any additional instructions, per the same workflow as previously performed for TAC cases. They will work with the MSC OR Schedulers to get the case postponed and keep track to address when we return to normal operations. For all GREEN dot patients, please send instructions to the Orthopedics Surgical Schedulers letting them know what you’d like done with the case and they will work with the OR schedulers at MSC to get removed, and get on the surgical schedule elsewhere.
Under “Routing,” Type: p 100115 (this will populate the Schedulers as shown below) to send to the shared scheduler’s pool. It’s sensitive, you’ll have to space after p and then enter our pool number. FYI.
Please complete stratification of patients by noon Friday, March 20.
